Boeing has recently unveiled its first 747 Aeroloft; complete with a separate cabin for sleeping quarters fitting 8 passengers. This addition makes for an estimated 400 square feet larger interior than the Boeing Business Jet 747-8. The total space of the cabin is an impressive 5,179 square feet; even greater than the Airbus A380 – the largest passenger plane in the world!

Surpassing this already luxury-level airliner is quite a feat. The eight private sleeping berths come complete with a changing room. Passengers are now able to sleep in ultimate comfort while in-flight. Sleeping space is directly above the main deck of the 747; between the tail of the aircraft and the upper deck.

The first Aeroloft departed from Boeing Global Transport & Executive Systems in Wichita, Kansas, last week, set to arrive in Hamburg, Germany at Lufthansa Technik. Throughout the country there are mostly small, Community airports create jobs for area residents in aviation related businesses on and near the airport. Flight schools, aircraft repair of private jets, fixed based operators, etc. as well as businesses indirectly related to the airfield. These include restaurants, hotels, car rentals, shopping, hotels and others. public use airports that are used by business aircraft and are key to the local economy, providing jobs, local investment and economic activity to the communities.

These employers generate much needed tax revenues for cities, counties and states. Local airports help keep existing employers in a community and attract new business eager to capitalize on the market. For an examples of the economic power of these smaller airports look at Leesburg Executive Airport (KJYO) in Virginia. Not a big operation in size, but the economic impact is estimated at $42 million to the regional economy and provides 612 jobs.

Magellan Jets 101: How to Tie a Bow Tie

Step One: Start by having the right side two inches lower than the left side. Then cross the longer side over the shorter side.

 

Step Two: Feed the long end up and under the loop created by the crossover, toward your chin, creating a single knot. Then throw it over your shoulder. Now form a half bow tie with the short side, making sure your thumb and forefinger are securely placed in the middle.

Step Three: Take the longer side that is sitting on your shoulder and drop it on top of the bow you made with the short side. 

Step Four:  Fold the bottom of the longer side.

Step Five: Grab both ends of the bow and pull forward. Take the longer folded side that's in front and pull it down and back. You should see a tiny hole- loop the end through there and pull it through. 

Step Six: Adjust as neccessary to make sure bow tie is even.

The jet will be capable of cruising at about 600 mph, but the most impressive stat is its ability to fly at least 3,000 miles with up to four passengers. It flies faster and farther than any Learjet ever built.

The plush aircraft is also decked out with the newest and most advanced avionics. Designed to enhance pilot performance, the jet includes a synthetic vision system for use in low-visibility conditions and a paperless cockpit that relies on iPads to call up navigation charts.

The Learjet 85 and two other new Learjet models, the smaller Learjets 70 and 75, are expected to be available next year, according to Bombardier. The aircraft is being assembled at Bombardier's plant in Wichita, Kan.

2011 First Half Private Aircraft Sales Report

Total worldwide sales of general aviation aircraft fell 15.5 percent in the first six months of this year. General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMMA) shows total billing of general aviation aircraft of $7.3 billion, which is down 22.3 percent.

GAMA and an aerospace workers union made a statement which blamed political rhetoric for the demonization of the industry resulting in fewer jobs. 

According to GAMA, piston powered airplane shipments were down 37 units from 424 units delivered in the first six months of 2010, a 8.7 percent decrease.  Turboprop plane shipments declined by 143 units, a 8.9 percent drop. Business jets have also suffered, down 26.5 percent to only 261 units.

The 5th Annual Magellan Jets Open in Orlando, FL

The 2013 Magellan Jets Open was played at the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club on January 4th. The 5th annual event is a two man pro-pro tournament that has had past winners like Lee Janzen, Chris DiMarco and Sam Saunders.

This years event had an exciting conclusion as 3 teams dueled it out over the final holes before Matt Every holed a 6 foot putt on the last hole for he and partner, Vince Covello, to win by one shot. With a two shot lead going into the last hole, the victory looked certain until
their approach shot plugged under the lip. The last round format was alternate shot so Matt managed to move the ball out of the lip backwards enough for Vince to get his shot from the trap to 6 feet before Matt made the winning putt.

Matt Every had his best year ever on the PGA Tour in 2012 with well over a million dollars in earnings and several top 10 finishes. Vince Covello missed by one shot at Q School and will be playing on the Web.Com Tour this year. They finished one shot ahead of 2011 AT T Pebble Beach Champion, DA Points and his partner, Ryder Cup player, JB Holmes. Defending champions and PGA Tour players, Chris DiMarco and Billy Horschel finished two shots back
